Area of work:
Dr. Crowe is a Consultant Interventional Radiologist undertaking a wide variety of minimally invasive therapeutic procedures under imaging guidance. He runs the very active Heartlands Hospital uterine fibroid embolisation programme. He also undertakes ultrasound, CT and MRI scanning including non-invasive vascular imaging with Doppler ultrasound, MRA and CT angiography. Other main areas of work include Uroradiology and urological intervention. Dr. Crowe is also part of the Trust’s Vascular Directorate providing vascular services such as angiography, angioplasty and stenting, including renal and carotid artery stenting.

Special interest:
Dr. Crowe has a special interest in Uterine fibroid embolisation (UFE, uterine artery embolisation), a minimally invasive alternative to hysterectomy for women with fibroids. He was one of the first to offer the procedure in the UK and has performed over 1000 fibroid embolisation procedures. Other special interests include embolisation for pelvic congestion syndrome in women and varicocele embolisation in men.

Research interest:
All aspects of uterine artery embolisation for fibroids, pelvic congestion syndrome. Dr. Crowe lectures widely and is an invited speaker at numerous conferences particularly in the fields of interventional radiology , embolisation and gynaecology intervention.

Local, Regional or National roles:
Dr. Crowe plays an active role in many local and national committees and societies. He sits on the Council of the British Society of Interventional Radiology (BSIR) and is currently the chair of the Communications Committee of the BSIR as well as the Uroradiology lead for the Royal College of Radiologists R-ITI (electronic training initiative) project. He is the Interventional Radiology Clinical Lead for the Heart of England Trust and sits on the Trust’s Novel Terapeutics Committee.
